The world’s best Icelandic horses and their riders will come to Herning for the World Championships in August 2021 

Horses and riders from 21 countries and tens of thousands of happy spectators will be gathered in Herning from the 1st – 8th of August 2021.

The World Championships are an opportunity to experience the biggest stars in breeding and sports. Horses and riders will travel from all over the world to compete for the medals. The World Championships are held every two years, and both horses and riders have to go through a demanding selection process to be allowed to represent their country at the World Championships.There will be horses on the tracks from morning to evening, and there will be plenty of opportunity to watch the beautiful dancing tölt horses, the lightning-fast pace horses and the fine selected breeding horses at the World Championships.
And the World Championships are more than horses. Around the tracks are an entire festival site with entertainment, lectures, shopping and food stalls. There is life in the square almost 24 hours a day!

During the week you will watch a lot of beautiful horses, you can shop’till you drop at the huge market area, eat well at the Food Court, get smarter at the lectures of DI-Talks, and get a beer and party with your friends in the evenings. You can get that special camp vibe at the campsites and have a week of party with good friends – all in love with the Icelandic horse.
The precise week schedule will be launched one month before the event.

The event site

The “Landskueplads” in Herning, an area of 286.000 m² will accommodate the VM2021. Here the large covered stands around the 250 m oval track are ready to receive the largest group of friends of the Icelandic horse ever.
Next to the track will be a huge shopping/exhibition area offering all your horse-loving heart desires from equipment to trailers. The Food Court with a huge variety of good food is situated in the middle of everything – here you can meet up with your friends an enjoy good food and a beer.  
In the stables next to the Food Court the confomation assessment of the breeding horses well be as well at the lectures, the so called DI-Talks, offering an exciting variety of interesting subjects around the Icelandic Horse. Also there will be an Artist Hall with crafts and goodies. In the evening, Hall Q will open up for music and party. All in all – you don’t need to leave the area! 🙂

The stands

Good to know: Both sides of the stands are covered and there are no blocks reserved for special countries as we want to celebrate the global Icelandic horse family and give everyone the possibility the book exactly the place they want.

Herning City

The Herning town center has several pleasant pedestrian streets. There is less than an hour’s drive to charming Søndervig that tempts with wide sandy beaches, the fresh air of the North Sea and Oplevelsescenter Naturkraft – a whole new experience arena about the forces of nature.

There is a wealth of accommodations available during the World Championships 2021.
You can stay in a tent or a caravan at the special VM2021 campsite, or at a hotel or a cozy B&B.

Easy to get to Herning

You can easily reach Herning by train or over the highway. The convention venue is 45 min. by car from Billund Airport and 25 min. from Karup Airport.

Tickets for disabled and their companion

There will be a wheelchair area located beside/in front of stand number A6.
The guest pays full price and a helper will come in for free (the tickets can’t be given to others). So please buy two tickets at full price and then contact with a copy of your companion card and you will be credited for one ticket.
If you also need a place in the area for wheelchair users, please inform us and we are pleased to assist you.

Who is behind the VM2021

The World Championships 2021 will be organised by FEIF and Hestar Event ApS, who is the team of Lone Bertelsen, Ole Søgaard, Rasmus Møller Jensen and Stine Sandahl that also stands behind the successfull Icehorse Festival, the world’s biggest WRL indoor competition for Icelandic horses, which premiered in 2018 and also takes place in Herning.
